Specialized Transport

Specialized Transport

Temperature-controlled, oversized and high-value cargo handled with dedicated equipment.

Overview

Service overview

Some cargo doesn't fit a standard trailer or a standard schedule. Specialized transport covers the loads that need dedicated equipment and planning outside the regular freight flow — temperature-controlled goods that can't tolerate a break in the cold chain, oversized or heavy-equipment loads that need permits and route surveys, and high-value cargo that needs a controlled chain of custody.

Every specialized move starts with a load assessment before booking is confirmed — dimensions, weight, temperature range or security requirements are checked against available equipment and, for oversized loads, against route and permit constraints, so there are no surprises on pickup day.

This service works alongside our other service lines rather than in isolation — a temperature-controlled shipment might still move through our warehousing network under cold storage, or an oversized construction load might need Freight Forwarding's inland coordination on its final leg from port.

Why It Exists

Problems this service solves

  • Cold-chain goods that lose integrity because a standard trailer can't hold the required temperature range.
  • Oversized or heavy equipment loads that a general carrier can't legally move without permits and route planning.
  • High-value cargo that needs a documented, controlled chain of custody rather than shared-trailer handling.
  • Last-minute discovery that a load doesn't fit standard equipment, after a standard truck has already been booked.
  • Limited visibility into temperature or handling conditions during transit for sensitive cargo.

What's Included

Capabilities

01

Refrigerated and frozen transport with continuous temperature logging for the full trip.

02

Abnormal-load transport for oversized, overweight or irregularly shaped cargo, including permit and route-survey coordination.

05

Coordination with Warehousing for temperature-controlled or secure storage before and after transport.

How It Runs

Process

  1. 1

    Load assessment

Dimensions, weight, temperature range or security requirements are reviewed against available equipment before booking is confirmed.

  2. 2

    Equipment and permit planning

For oversized loads, route surveys and permits are arranged; for cold-chain loads, trailer temperature range is matched to cargo requirements.

  3. 3

    Dedicated pickup

Load is collected on a dedicated trailer with handling procedures specific to its cargo type.

  4. 4

    Monitored transit

Temperature-controlled loads are logged continuously; secure and abnormal loads are tracked with tighter check-in intervals than standard freight.

  5. 5

    Controlled delivery

Delivery includes verification against the original load assessment — temperature record, seal check or escort sign-off as applicable.

Equipment

Vehicle & equipment requirements

  • Refrigerated (reefer) trailers with adjustable temperature range for chilled and frozen cargo.
  • Low-bed and extendable trailers for oversized and heavy-equipment loads, with escort vehicles arranged where permits require them.
  • Sealed, GPS-tracked trailers for high-value and secure cargo movements.
  • All specialized equipment is booked in advance — lead time varies by load type, with abnormal loads generally requiring the longest permit lead time.

Coverage

Questions

Frequently asked questions
